A Complex and Controversial Path in Iranian Pageantry
Golshan Barazesh Bakhtiary was one of the Top 10 finalists of Miss Iran 2017. However, due to unprofessional behavior during the competition and failure to verify key personal information—including her date of birth and educational credentials, where she had introduced herself as a doctor—she was eliminated from the competition. In 2019, Golshan returned to the Miss Iran Organization and, after formally apologizing for her previous conduct, requested a second chance to move forward and represent Iran on an international platform. The judging panel accepted her apology and once again placed their trust in her, providing her with the opportunity to participate in the Miss Top of the World 2019 competition in Latvia. During this international platform, Golshan spoke about freedom and freedom of speech in Iran and engaged in several related activities. With the support of the Miss Iran Organization, she was selected as first runner-up and was crowned, marking a notable comeback.
Following the events of September 2022, when 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman Mahsa Amini died after being arrested by Iran’s morality police—an incident that sparked the global “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement and nationwide protests—Golshan attempted to launch a parallel beauty competition abroad. Despite being aware that the Miss Iran Organization had rebranded as Queens of Persia, she proceeded to establish a separate platform under the name “Miss Persia.” Operating from Milan, Italy, and recruiting Iranian participants based in Europe, she aimed to secure a Miss Universe license to represent Iran internationally.
During this period, the Miss Universe Organization underwent ownership changes and was acquired by Thai entrepreneur Anne Jakrajutatip. Under the new leadership, eligibility criteria were expanded to include transgender women, married women with children, older contestants, and broader international participation. Within this context, Golshan was able to obtain a license and officially operate Miss Universe Persia. With the support of media outlets such as Iran International, Manoto, BBC Persian, and VOA Persian, she organized an event featuring approximately 19 participants, primarily married Iranian women with children living in Europe. Fay Asghari, who already had some public recognition, was crowned as the first Miss Universe Persia. Critics, however, argued that her selection reflected personal preference rather than merit.
Shortly after the 2024 crowning and following several weeks of promotional activities and public appearances, Fay Asghari unexpectedly resigned from her title, a decision many observers considered prudent. At the same time, several participants publicly criticized the professionalism of the organization on social media. As a result, the title was transferred to Ava Vahneshan, a close associate of Golshan and the first runner-up, who had also previously held the title of Miss Earth Persia 2024.
Following these developments, Golshan’s presence in the pageant industry declined, with limited visible initiatives connected to her platform. Nevertheless, she proceeded with organizing another edition the following year, which insiders described as even more controversial. During this period, various claims and accusations emerged regarding her motivations and affiliations. Some alleged connections to the Iranian regime aimed at disrupting the pageant community, while others suggested links to external political groups. As a result, speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding her activities expanded significantly, reflecting the highly sensitive and politicized environment in which these events unfolded.

مسیر پیچیده و جنجالی در رقابتهای زیبایی ایران
گلشن برازِش بختیاری یکی از ۱۰ نفر برتر مسابقه میس ایران ۱۳۹۶ بود. با این حال، به دلیل رفتار غیرحرفهای در طول رقابت و عدم تأیید اطلاعات شخصی مهم، از جمله تاریخ تولد و مدارک تحصیلی—در حالی که خود را پزشک معرفی کرده بود—از ادامه مسابقه حذف شد. در سال ۱۳۹۸، گلشن به سازمان میس ایران بازگشت و پس از عذرخواهی رسمی بابت رفتار پیشین خود، درخواست فرصت دوباره برای ادامه مسیر و نمایندگی ایران در یک رقابت بینالمللی را مطرح کرد. هیئت داوران با پذیرش عذرخواهی او، بار دیگر به وی اعتماد کردند و این فرصت را در اختیارش قرار دادند تا در مسابقه میس تاپ آو د ورلد ۱۳۹۸ در کشور لتونی شرکت کند. او در این رقابت درباره آزادی و آزادی بیان در ایران سخن گفت و در چندین فعالیت مرتبط حضور داشت. در نهایت، با حمایت سازمان میس ایران، موفق به کسب عنوان نایبقهرمان اول شد و تاجگذاری کرد که این امر بازگشتی قابل توجه در مسیر حرفهای او محسوب میشود.
پس از وقایع شهریور ۱۴۰۱، زمانی که مهسا امینی، زن ۲۲ ساله ایرانی-کرد، پس از بازداشت توسط گشت ارشاد جان خود را از دست داد و این حادثه به شکلگیری جنبش جهانی «زن، زندگی، آزادی» و اعتراضات سراسری منجر شد، گلشن تلاش کرد یک رقابت زیبایی موازی در خارج از کشور راهاندازی کند. با وجود آگاهی از تغییر نام سازمان میس ایران به «کوئینز آو پرشیا»، او اقدام به ایجاد پلتفرمی جداگانه با عنوان «میس پرشیا» کرد. او با فعالیت از شهر میلان ایتالیا و جذب شرکتکنندگانی از میان ایرانیان مقیم اروپا، هدف خود را دریافت امتیاز رسمی برای اعزام نماینده ایران به رقابتهای جهانی قرار داد.
در همین دوره، سازمان میس یونیورس دستخوش تغییر مالکیت شد و به کارآفرینی تایلندی واگذار گردید. تحت مدیریت جدید، شرایط شرکت در این رقابتها گسترش یافت و شامل زنان متأهل دارای فرزند، شرکتکنندگان در سنین بالاتر و گروههای متنوعتری از کشورهای مختلف شد. در چنین فضایی، گلشن موفق شد امتیاز برگزاری «میس یونیورس پرشیا» را دریافت کند. با حمایت رسانههایی مانند ایران اینترنشنال، منوتو، بیبیسی فارسی و صدای آمریکا، او رویدادی با حضور حدود ۱۹ شرکتکننده—عمدتاً زنان ایرانی متأهل ساکن اروپا—برگزار کرد. در این رقابت، فی اسغری که پیشتر نیز تا حدی شناختهشده بود، به عنوان نخستین میس یونیورس پرشیا تاجگذاری شد. با این حال، برخی منتقدان معتقد بودند که این انتخاب بیش از آنکه بر پایه شایستگی باشد، تحت تأثیر شهرت فردی او بوده است.
پس از مراسم تاجگذاری در سال ۱۴۰۳ و چند هفته فعالیتهای تبلیغاتی، فی اسغری بهطور ناگهانی از عنوان خود کنارهگیری کرد؛ اقدامی که از سوی بسیاری تصمیمی منطقی تلقی شد. همزمان، برخی از شرکتکنندگان نیز در شبکههای اجتماعی از سطح حرفهای این مجموعه انتقاد کردند. در ادامه، عنوان به آوا وهنشان، دوست نزدیک گلشن و نایبقهرمان اول، که پیشتر عنوان میس ارث پرشیا ۱۴۰۳ را نیز داشت، منتقل شد.
پس از این رویدادها، حضور گلشن در عرصه رقابتهای زیبایی کاهش یافت و فعالیت شاخصی از سوی او مشاهده نشد. با این حال، او در سال بعد بار دیگر اقدام به برگزاری دورهای جدید کرد که به گفته برخی منابع، حتی جنجالیتر از دوره نخست بود. در این میان، ادعاها و گمانهزنیهای مختلفی درباره اهداف و ارتباطات او مطرح شد؛ برخی او را متهم به همکاری با نهادهای حکومتی برای تضعیف این حوزه دانستند و برخی دیگر از ارتباطات احتمالی با جریانهای سیاسی خارجی سخن گفتند. در مجموع، این فضا موجب شکلگیری موجی از شایعات و نظریههای مختلف پیرامون فعالیتهای او شد که بازتابی از حساسیتهای موجود در این حوزه به شمار میرود.
