Worthy Girl of Iran 1972
The First Miss Universe Iran
In 1972, Roya Rouhani Moghaddam was crowned Dokhtareh Shayesteh Iran (Worthy Girl of Iran), an honor that established her among the most distinguished national beauty queens in the final decade before pageants were prohibited following the 1979 Revolution. Upon receiving her national title, Roya was selected as Miss Universe Iran, becoming the first Iranian contestant to hold this distinction.
The Miss Universe pageant in 1972 was held in Puerto Rico. Roya was scheduled to compete alongside delegates from around the world; however, she withdrew at the final moment. She later represented Iran at the Miss International Teen Princess pageant, where she competed with international delegates and was selected as the second runner-up in the final competition.
Today, Roya Rouhani Moghaddam resides in the United States, remembered as one of Iran’s prominent beauty queens who represented the country on the international stage during a transformative period in its cultural history.
